.:. Up .:.
Initially I wanted to do this post as an insert in my previous weekly post, but then I went on and on and now as you see, its enough for me to make it into a full post.
Jus saw the movie "Up" , thanks to my cable. My cable is awesome, dunnoe how many movies I've watched liao. Didn't got the chance to see when it was showing.
Even though the reviews for the movie was good, I was still skeptical about it. The movie struck me as the kind of kiddy, morally, happily-in-the-end movie. But after watching it, I was thoroughly surprised. It was alot nicer than I assumed.
I especially liked the meaning behind the film. How the house represented so many things.
The moment the uncle (pardon the word usage cos it makes this easier and more smooth to type) "escaped" in his house hung on balloons, it was akin to the house bringing him to his dreams. His childhood dreams of going on an adventure.
Came the storm and the house got grounded, now the uncle having to pull the house all the way. I felt the storm very much resembled the death of his wife. And now the house is his burden instead, having to pull it all the way to the paradise falls. In contrast to how happy he was when he met up with his wife, but after so many years of her death now he hasn't taken it upon himself to go to paradise falls, which in the first place was his wife's dream.
Yada yada yadah. Fast forward. The part where the kid decides to fly off to rescue the ostrich.
He had to throw away all the stuff in the house in order to make it lighter so that it could fly again. Using his owns hands, he threw all the things away, even the 2 chairs that belonged to him and his wife. In a way, it was very touching. How using his own determination (his very hands), he had to let go of his past, his belongings, his attachment so that he could move and carry on with life, rather than just be grounded cos of the burden. I think this was one of the best scenes.
Then came the last part. The uncle looking at his house dropping down into the clouds. Akin to having finally let go of his past. Seeing it disappear. But it wasn't the end for him without the dream anymore, for the plane thingy that he acquired is a further representation of how he will move on.
Not a very simple looking movie now huh. Which is why I liked it so much. There's so much depth that goes into the scenes that really struck me. See I'm not an adrenaline watching junkie only ok. I can appreciate such good films too hor haha! The writer is good. Claps claps for the very clever written representations. I like :)
