.:. Driving .:.
Vrrrrooooommmm...
Ever since I got my license, I've been driving on and off. Mostly when I return to camp, or on shorter trips around singapore since I haven't gotten my license for long yet. But still I enjoy driving. Yes driving could be pretty stressful, and sometimes nerve wrecking when you're travelling on a new road. There's just so much things to look out for, not only do you have to mind that you are driving properly, but you gotta take note that others are doing the same too.
That being said, I still think a driving license is sort of an essential, for a guy at least. Just having that card alone in your wallet provides you with bragging rights, in camp at least. And having a car to drive, be it your own or your dad's permission to use his yourself (of which both options I sadly do not have), is obviously a plus to the guy's "attractiveness".
So ya, I do quite like driving.
On the vast intertwining roads that weave through singapore, masses of cars zoom past each day. Every car, an individual, moving along the pace of society, rushing from one destination to another. Like life, the hustle and bustle of roads never stop, even late into the night.
All drivers, having passed their test, are taught and verified to have the proper set of driving and precautionary skills that are deemed sociably responsible for driving. But out at the road, in the end, every driver drives different. Obviously not all drivers follow traffic rules, when the traffic police isn't nearby at least. But despite that, the mass of cars still moves smoothly on the expressway.
Like life, there's no One way to do things. Yes we're all indoctrinated with social norms, "the correct way to do things", but its up to us personally how we live our lives. Which education course we want, what age you wana get married, where you wana buy your house etc etc. As long as what you're doing is still within limits, and by that I mean lawful unless caught, everybody's lives still goes on, like the never ending traffic on the road.
In our journey, people come and go in our lives, similar to passengers boarding and alighting your car. Some stay there, while others' are meerly taking a convenient ride. Some you might complain about them dirtying your "car", some you'll gladly reserve the front passenger seat for. Just remember, no matter who they are, still they were once in your "car", and have made you who you are now.
Accidents sometimes happen when people drive, and it does too in life. It might not have to be a major one, but still a setback nonetheless. It makes you stop, consider the matter at hand, before moving on with life again. We all learn from these accidents, and hope never it will never reoccur. And sometimes, these "accidents" are so major that it results in the "loss" of a passenger. But this time, unlike driving, many of us just carry on. We fail to slow down, put aside whatever heartfelt emotions at the moment, and to slowly consider the matter. Is it worth losing that person, could the "accident" have been avoided? Don't forget, there's always such a thing as U-turn, wthe passenger might just be back there waiting for you.
And perhaps, the most important takeaway. No matter what happens on the journey. How many passengers you pick up, alight or you kick them out. How many accidents that you had. How many U-turns you took. In the end, your destination is still there waiting for you. It won't run away. It's just whether after all these, do you still have the courage to take to the road and try for your desired destination once more.
Who knows, it might be just round the corner.
