Jurong point isn't big, its freaking huge!
Time really flies. Within just the span of a few blogposts, i'm now already in my last week of SCS (or is it cos of my pityful blog rate). This means that its another 8weeks down. I remember looking forward to the start of SCS, then the 4 week halfway mark, and now its the end. So I am a 4 month NSF already, just like tat.
This tour of SCS isn't exactly as enjoyable as I pictured it out to be, I dare say. Its the case of getting your hopes real high, then crashing back down to earth with your head spinning. The BSLC term has always been fabled to a term for you to enjoy, slack off even sounds possible, before you enter pro-term. Which sadly to say wasn't the case for me. My 8 term week started out quite packed, with courses n tests packed back to back, on the condition that this is to allow us to have a slacker last few weeks. Yet here I am, going into my last week and with only 1 nites out, so much for slacker.
Another thing is that as SCS is runned by warrant officers n such, who get to go home daily, we are supposed (or by hearsay) to have early RO so that the commanders can siam home, yet the onli time I got an early RO (at 5.30pm) is tis week. Its really demoralising given that admin is one of the few welfare that we NSF can have, time to get in touch with family n friends, and to rest n recuperate for the next day. SO late ROs mean that I always have to rush thru things, multi-tasking while making calls home, which dosen't make it satisfying at all. And one of the most fustrating thing is when u hear a commander saying that he is hardworking jus because he stays till 10 in his office to finish his work...
Nites out is another thing that we are critically short of. The point of lugging yourself through the whole day, knowing you have the nite free which means got nites out, yet when the time comes, it jus dosen't happen and even worst, no explanation at all. Real demoralising. Then when we finally get a nites out, we hear other coy nites out start at 3pm! Really its a case of same person but different life (direct chinese translation haha).
Just gonna say the generation gap between commanders and us.
Hey look, I jus covered all the benefits of being in SCS, wow...really tells u how "slack" my SCS was ar. But it wasn't all bad. I did discover something good. The training method used, where everything we do is often referred back to us that if we ourselves can't manage it, how do we expect our men in future to heed our commands. And it really made me realize alot more things in SCS than in bmt, more regarding leadership skills that I have to pick up. Its more of a shift in perspectives on things. Now I have the habit of penning down these thoughts into my journal, for my future reference as a commander-to-be. I know its gonna be imba helpful.
So ya, my SCS BSLC wasn't a bed of roses, but at least there's a rose in there still. No wonder ppl say BMT is paradise, I miss BMT WHISKEY PLATOON 1. And here's a thank you to those that kept me through this whole period, my family, my friends whom i always sms to complain to, gof for outings which no matter what we do (or the lack of it) never fails to recharge me for the upcoming week again and to sushan for being willing to come out n pei me for my nites out after yr sch (I noe yr mrt fare ir $2+) xD
