.:. Avatar .:.
Yes I jus came home from Japan and I watched Avatar with a sec sch friend of mine already, hehe. Will blog bout my Japan trip sometime later.
I must say the $6 paid for the ticket was totally worth the movie. It is currently one of my top must -see-movies (not that many have entered the list). Lets start with a brief summary for u readers. Jack Sully, a marine whose brother died in a robber, has decided to take his bro's place in a top scientific project, Avatar Project. On this distant planet exists an element, I tink its called unobtainium or something like that, and it suppousedly sells for a very high price. So humans have decided to colonize the planet to refine as much of that element as possible. However, living on the planet is a specie called Na'vi. They believe strongly in the bond living creatures have with the planet, and that life energy is not given but borrowed. Here comes the problem. The Na'vi's hometree happens to be above the greatest deposit of the element the humans seek. So Jack's mission is to learn the ways of the Na'vi, and to convince them to move out of hometree.
The Avatar Project is where humans fused human DNA with Na'vi DNA to form hybrids, whereby due to the genetic identically, humans would be able to 'link' with their 'manufactured' Na'vi bodies and control it as if themselves. Due to the death of his bro, Jack Sully chose to enter the project as they are genetically identical. So on his 1st mission, he got lost, and then was saved by the Na'vi's cheif daughter, who eventually falls in love with Jack. Jack too learned the ways of the Na'vi, and that the violent methods employed by humans are wrong, and decides to lead the Na'vi against the humans. That's a very original idea, so I must give it a thumbs up. (credit to wiki for some words used here too).
Now the details. The computer graphics is absolutely...erm...stunning. Me and my friend were left stunned after the movie. The graphics seemed so real, as if there was really such a world. Idea wise, I really believed it was a freaking good idea. How the story brings out the ruthlessness of humans in obtaining the element and the bond the Na'vi share with the planet. The writer intelligently brought in the idea that the Na'vi all had a long twirl of hair hanging on their backs, which possess small tentacles at the back which they use to connect with other living things or the planet itself. It was a great way to show the contrast between conventional methods used by humans. Na'vi tame creatures, by using that hair of theirs to connect to that of the creatures (say an alien horse and the flying thingy), and the fact that creature must first accept the Na'vi, as compared to how humans simply capture and tame the creature. Excellent idea. Technology wise, humanoid robots (first appeared in matrix 3 so no credit for that), helis with double blades and huge fat gunship (no credit).
While watching the film, I cant help but feel the strong message that the writer is sending, the current way humans are exploiting the natural resources are killing the Earth. The way humans are using war to scare the Na'vi away. The scene where the trigger-happy marines simply fired missles and burnt down hometree while the Na'vi could only watch was just...heart-wrenching. Celebratory moment when finally the marine's machines got whooped by the planet itself (no spoilers...go watch haha).
All in all, it was superb. I luv it totally!!!Go watch it!!!
