.:. Lone star in the night sky .:.
Inspirational post again.
On the way home, walking on the path beside the busy roads. Cars rushing through, leaving traces of but their light behind, sports cars revving up their engines, a noisy protest against those taxis that eventually still overtake them. The air was warm, no bit of wind blowing through. The shirt sticks to my back, moving in unison with my breaths. I reached the junction, waiting for the light to turn green for me to cross. I looked up at the sky, noticing the lone star.
This reminded me of a certain scene that is deeply etched in my mind. It was a trip to Blue Mountains, Australia, on a Leadership Training Camp with my sec sch. We were all sitting at the campsite, in a huge circle, ready to do our reflection for the day. Before we start, the guide told us to look up, there was little stars in the sky. We proceeded on with our activities. At the end, after we had finished, it was rather late into the nite. Once again, our guide told us to look up, this time the sky was saturated with stars, the most I've ever seen in my life. The stars just spread across the black sea, covering every bit of available space, certainly a sight to see. He then told us it was because now, the city lights would have been dimmed, so the stars shine.
Link it all. In Singapore, we find it hard to see the stars, for we are surrounding the city, which is always brightly lit. One can try looking up into the sky from the house, but the stars we see are...minimal. Living in this modern time, surrounded by our so called modernization, one becomes engulfed, surrounded, even jailed in the four walls of the high-rise buildings we ever so pain-stakingly traverse through daily. Walls after walls we see, billboards after billboards, vehicles after vehicles, people after people. One tends to lose sight of what was originally there, Nature. The land we live on is replaced by our doings, our dreams, our desires. As time goes by, one gets accustomed to such a sight, such that the natural scenery ever so beautiful is lost.
For us now to be able to appreciate the natural life which is lost, we can only turn off the city lights, remove away the desire for modernization from our hearts. Only by doing so, can we clearly see the unclouded skies filled with the brightly lit stars amongst the darkness. How long has it been since man let go of the engine of modernization, stop, sit down and appreciate the things we've lost on our way.
When was the last time you've ever done that?
