.:. Reason .:.
This post is spawned from a msn chat with wenzhen recently.
I'm sure all my readers are well-versed in the knowledge, if not tired of it, that I lik gundam :). I was talking to Wenzhen jus the other nite, bout anime and stuff, then she was like asking why I lik gundam so much, and that set me thinking through the nite.
A brief history. U could say it was love at first sight :). I can remember watching Gundam Wing on the then channel 8 in the morning. That was when I started taking interest in gundam, or rather machines. From then on, i steadily began watching shows with machine in it. Somehow, gundam disappeared from the tv screen for a while, until it made a comeback as gundam seed in sec 1/2 i think. Dalvin's legacy(cough cough) of gundam officially starts. My first gundam was 1/144 Aile Strike Gundam :). All the way till now, i officially have 24 gundams(of which 1 was sadly decapitated...T.T), so 23 and counting...
So after much thinking, I managed to come up with some reasons:
Firstly, its cos of the action. Hey I'm a boy, so ya the action scenes is probably a reason. Seeing the gundams flying around, the beam sabers blazing alive, the gundanium alloy shattering as the beam cuts through it...etc etc. Cant imagine why it would not be attractive to any guy.
Secondly, i put it under the category of creativity. Since young, all i need was a lego standard kit and i could sit 1 whole day infront of the tv building whatever nonsense i can think of, or imitating interesting machines i can find on tv. I dare say I know my lego set inside out. It might sound weird, but somehow or rather, spending hours diving my hand into the box and digging out the lego piece i want, and sitting there stoning while trying to think to a certain method to build something is fun to me. U see it in your mind, then slowly building it from 1 lego brick all the way to the final creation. Satisfaction to max :). So how does tat link to gundam, well its relatively impossible to build a flexible gundam using lego, so i immediately jumped on the band wagon when i saw gundam models. Best of all it has to be fixed :). U see the gundam being 'manufactured' right infront of your very eyes, by your very own hands...how estatic can u get!!!Ok I know I am the onli 1 that feels that way. Suddenly, Zhiyong's quote about pepper lunch comes across my mind:"U pay money then u have to cook the meat yourself". What can I say, I enjoy the process of building my gundam :)
Thirdly, (which is kinda of emo) is because of the image that gundams portray. GUNDAMs (General Unilateral Neuro-link Dispersive Automative Maneuveur) are easily the size of a bulding, with a cockpit snugly in the torso jus nice enough for a pilot to sit in it. The pilot sits in the cockpit, and move the huge machine simply with either a joystick, or two throttles by the side (minus the intricate programming that has to go into the Operating System). The sense of having such a giant at yr disposable is ermm, exhilarating. Which made me think, is it because of a feeling of smallness in this vast society, or simply explained, inferiority complex. To have a gigantic machine, to either destroy, or to protect your loved ones, as an embodiment of myself would certainly provide a means of escape from this inferiority complex. The gundam is me, I am gundam, is tat what is making me so crazy about it???
In conclusion, I cannot pin-point the exact reason why I like gundam. But my love for gundam is undeniable(I form strong hydrogen, covalent, hydrophobic, disulphide, ionice etc etc bonds with it...sry i study too much liao). So whether it is because or reason 1,2 or 3, or a combination of the 3 I dun noe, afterall there's the chinese saying:"The audience sees better." So ya...wat else can I say,
